Cambodia Gambling Dens

[ English ]

There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling dens that reside just over the border from next door Thailand, where gambling hall gambling is not legal. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in an excellent spot, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; still, financing sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and though visas are allegedly required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of most borders.

The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored ship casino, contains 150 slot machines and sixty tables. The Naga gambling hall is open 24 hours with 42 tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machines and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the normal gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational resort and hotel compound that highlights numerous amenities accompanying the gambling den, which offers 10,000 square feet of 130 one armed bandits and 88 table games.
