Cambodia Casinos

[ English ]

There is an interesting history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which casino wagering is illegal. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 biggest gaming locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a thriving business with Thai workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The astonishing income acquired from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; still, financing sources are cryptic. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 17:00, and although visas are for all intents and purposes required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is real of many border crossings.

The initial Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary ship gambling den, highlights 150 slot machine games and 60 tables. The Naga casino is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slots and five table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slots and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel compound that highlights many amenities accompanying the gambling den, which has 10,000 square feet of 130 slots and eighty eight table games.
