Cambodia Gambling Dens
There is an interesting background to the Cambodia casinos that lie just over the border from neighboring Thailand, in which casino betting is not legal. Eight gambling halls are based in a generally small area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia casinos is in a prime area, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a thriving business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital accrued from the gambling dens ranges from 7.5 million dollars to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of controls requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; although, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are supposedly required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is accurate of many borders.
The initial Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau casino, features one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 tables. The Naga river boat never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of twenty-one, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long followed. There are 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features 300 one armed bandits and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling halls in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an all-around resort and hotel complex that contains numerous amenities aside from the gambling den, which provides ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight gaming tables.
