Cambodia Gambling Halls
There is an appealing story to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which casino gambling is not permitted. Eight casinos are established in a relatively tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This conclave of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect destination, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two largest betting centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The phenomenal income accrued from the gambling dens ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of restrictions constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are allegedly required to cross, there are means around this, as is true of most border crossings.
The original Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary boat gambling hall, contains one hundred and fifty slots and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, four tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and one each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon followed. There are 150 one armed bandits and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four one armed bandits and sixty eight table games at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machine games and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slots and 96 table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 gambling halls in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and 97 casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international vacation and hotel complex that features many conveniences on top of the casino, which contains 10,000 square feet of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight tables.
