Cambodia Gambling Dens

[ English ]

There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall gaming is prohibited. Eight casinos are established in a relatively tiny area in the city of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent destination, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 largest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The astonishing capital gained from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a number of limitations constraints for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mostly Thai; however, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and even though visas are for all intents and purposes necessary to pass, there are means around this, as is real of most borders.

The original Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored boat gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga river boat is open all hours with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of chemin de fer, 10 of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The original gambling hall in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and five tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and 68 table games at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machines and seventy gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slots and 96 table games, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 one armed bandits and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 one armed bandits and ninety seven table games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a multinational vacation and hotel compound that features a number of amenities in addition to the gambling hall, which has 10,000 square feet of 130 one armed bandits and eighty eight gaming tables.
